FINALLY Found an Internet Cafe

Currently, it is 5:30pm on Wednesday afternoon and Matt & I are sitting in an Internet Cafe in Florence. Matt is trying to upload some of our gazillon photographs on a computer that we are pretty sure was new in 1999 while cursing under his breath every 10 seconds. I know we have a lot of catching up to do, but before I go on with what we have actually been doing, I have some random comments to make.

1) Matt and I have been mistaken for Italian locales no less than three times. Twice we were asked for directions, once by someone actually speaking Italian.

2) I love the fact that not only is it acceptable, but EXPECTED that you share a 1/2 liter of wine at lunch. And then you go home and take a nap.

3) Matt looks damn good strolling around Italia in the sweater I knit him:

4) Lunch is at 1:30pm, dinner at 8:30. This only took 4 days to figure out.

5) Matt may or may not post some great photos of me chasing cats around the Forum. é Gatti in Roma!!

Anyway, onto Day 2. We were able to sleep in a bit and then headed over to the Spanish Steps (only about a 20 minute walk from our hotel). We stopped to watch a group of protestors of the Kyoto Treaty dress up like a heard of penguins and parade all over the steps. After ducking into a cafe for a Cappuchino (which we are now both addicted to), and then sharing some pizza and panini for lunch, we headed onto our "Crypts and Catacombs" tour. The Catacombs were outside the city walls, and was fairly interesting. We then headed to the Bassilica of San Clement, which was a 12th centery church built on top of a 4th century church, which was built on top of a common-living area from the 1st century. Matt and I both agreed the common area was the most interesting - there is still running water leading into the ruins of old homes that no one knows the source of. All the floor tiles and walls of the homes were original!

The final stop of the tour was the Cappuchin Monestary. I'm not even going to explain to you what the inside of the Crypt was like. Just click here. Story of these guys here.

That evening we ventured to dinner at a place near our hotel that I read about in a magazine, that was a bit disappointing but the service and wine was fantastic.

I would go on but our time here is running short. We are meeting with our friends the Berklichs for dinner in a few. Hopefully we'll find our way back here soon.
